Butter Dish

Round or rectangular plate of butter?
Hello! Does anyone know the effects different for these two types of dishes of butter? Any tradition behind them, or for reasons of each other? Do you have a preference, perhaps? I wonder if maybe one is more European, or something. We love creating a formal table, and we are trying to choose a butter dish to go with a new set. Both are beautiful! Thanks so much!
It depends on the form of butter, of course. Some oldsters would butter butter in a large rotation, and put a little clay pots around butter to harden. Others would make a great block in a pan, then cut into rectangles of butter normal size.
