Treatment
Unlike liver, the kidneys are unable to regenerate. Therefore, any damage caused is irreversible. Treatment of kidney failure in cats is not designed to provide a cure. Instead, the goal is to help your cat live as comfortably as possible.
When diagnosed with this condition, your cat probably be placed on a special diet. This is to reduce your intake of protein and salt. Your cat may also need to take medication to control hypertension, or pressure high blood pressure. The kidneys are also responsible for the production of hormones to maintain an adequate level of red blood cells. Therefore, your cat may need medication also to combat anemia.
