In a Montessori classroom has a child must be a certain age to be able to do an activity?

For those involved in Montessori - Is normal activity that a child will be retained because of their age? My son is very bright and have said that we must bring to the audition process - which is fascination with numbers and mathematics and is beyond normal child his age knows ... that badly wants to work with bead chains Montessori, but it does ever said that only 5 years old are allowed to have lessons in this .... his teacher told me that must complete all other activities before making beaded chains ... I always thought Montessori allows a child to progress at their own pace and if he was ready to begin a lesson then introduce him ... he has known his colors from I was 2 and still do in matching color ... is bored and frustrated .... this is the normal form approaching Montessori ... you must be a certain age to do an activity?

This will be my third year as a public school teacher in a Montessori classroom. In the last two years I taught children ages 3-5. This year I'm teaching kindergarten and first (something that was invented for us to go through the AMS certification and work with the addition of primary upper) grade. Just to give a quick background .... To answer your question ... No! Montessori lessons should not be based on age. There is a sequence of materials and most of the lessons come in a certain age bracket, but should not interfere in the sequence in a child's learning. Children must learn the lessons that are ready for! Sometimes I miss the lessons in the sequence bc children and do not need and are ready to move forward. The beaded chains are for jumping count / multiplying. I prefer my kids have a background as well before doing these because they have to jump / multiplication (and multiplication is repeated addition as you know). Say that however, if your child can count and recognize numbers linear matching not see a problem with him doing the beaded chains. It is a material sense as well. Thus, counting these strings you can get a better idea of what certain numbers are large. It really sounds like he may need to start composing works issues with the golden grain materials and so on if it is really making progress in math. Regarding color matching, if you know your colors then you should consider create new works .... as the third color box where you can organize the various shades of darker colors of light a. I'm sorry to ramble, but I want you to know that under with their concerns. Montessori is about "After the child." This means that the teacher must be prepared to give lessons when a child is ready for them, regardless of age. Hold Montessori children is not at all! Hope this helps.
