I have a cast iron dutch oven,the lid has ribs on the inside. I was wondering if there is a purpose for these?

The ribs are in a circular pattern. They start at the center and work outward, about four rows.

For long slow cooking the ribs will allow condensate to drip back onto the food rather than run down the side of the dutch oven.
