Precious Metal Clay (PMC) and Art Clay (silver is silver )..... product all over?
Or is the finished product (like a ring or pendant) "silver" silver, while the center is still a form of clay that was used early in the process? How do you know? Thanks in advance! =]
Metal clay is a medium of clay used to make jewelry, beads and small sculpture. It consists of very small particles of precious metals (like silver, gold or platinum) mixed with an organic binder and water. Metalclay can be equal to any form of soft clay by hand or with molds. After drying, fired in a kiln, with a handheld gas torch, or gas stove. The folder is burned, leaving the pure metal, sintering. The contraction of between 8% and 30% occurs (depending on product used), but this is exploited by artisans to produce very fine detail. Precious metal silver results that contain objects of clay in 999 pure silver which is ideal for the glazing. Gold clay is much more expensive to use by itself, but can be used to make beautiful objects of silver accents.
