What are the best novels of modern Japanese literature in the 20th century?
I just want to know more about the best Japanese novelists and their masterpieces in the 20 century. (1900 - Present).
Let me say, I really do not know much about Japanese literature at all, but I seen these names, and I think it is at least some of the greatest post-war (1945-present) Japanese literature. I gave an example of a famous work, and Yukio Mishima. (Temple of the Golden Pavilion, 1956) Kobo Abe (Woman in the Dunes, 1962) Haruki Murakami (The Bird Chronicle, 1995) I've only read the bird Chronicle, and was quite a good read and I recommend it. Japan has had two Nobel Prize winners in literature (some speculate Murakami one day get the award), these have been Yasunari Kawabata and Kenzaburo Oe. By the way, if you are interested in Japanese cinema 20th be sure to review the films of Yasujiro Ozu (Tokyo Story, 1953), Kenji Mizoguchi (Sansho's, 1954) and Akira Kurosawa (Seven Samurai, 1954).
