How long can you store uncooked egg yolks/whites in the fridge?

My roommate likes to bake a lot and when he has unused eggs that he has already cracked open, he puts them in a tupperware and stores them in the fridge. Is this safe to do? How long is the shelf life of eggs stored in this fashion because he sometimes stores them like that for a week or more? Please someone help me so my roommate doesn't make me ill with his cooking...lol

It's not safe to do because of salmonella. He should get rid of whatever he has that is left over right away without storing it. Of course, uncracked eggs are safe, but once they are cracked, you can consider the egg contaminated because it comes in contact with the outer shell (and as you may know, birds don't have a separate anal canal from a birth canal as mammals do. They do both through the same "hole").

PS - There are now known cases of the the salmonella bacteria even getting THROUGH the shell and into the whites and yolk, so consider all eggs, broken or not, contaminated and treat them that way!
