Bend Oregon is one of the best places to retire in the United States. It has everything a retiree could want. Recreational opportunities abound, everything from bicycle mountain, trekking, rafting, golf, fishing, climbing, camping, downhill skiing and cross country skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, and more generally.

The weather is perfect. Moderate days and cool nights characterize years Bend weather all year. Due to the high altitude and clear air, the average temperatures during the night from 30 to 40 degrees below the highs of the day. Bend was originally called Farewell Bend and received its name because it was in this place that travelers in pioneer roads had their last view of river. Today only a few hours drive to the Oregon Coast. Portland is 3.5 hours away, if you are looking for a big city. Redmond International Airport (Roberts Field) is just 16 miles North.

Bend is almost geographical center of the state and is also the most populous city in central Oregon with a population of over 75,000. To the east is high desert vegetation and to the west, Bend is surrounded by the U.S. Forest Service land. At an altitude of 3628 meters, the curve has a dry climate prevailing in the Great Basin. On sunny days, low humidity and cool nights provide the most common weather pattern.

Bend has the highest average number of sunny days in the state. On clear days average 158 days a year with an additional 105 days are mostly sunny. Many of the remaining day provide substantial sun. With over 240 physicians in its medical staff, representing 40 specialties and subspecialties, and more than 1,950 caregivers, offering many services normally found only in larger urban areas. These include open heart and neurosurgery, comprehensive cancer care, rehabilitation for stroke patients and serious injuries, technologies sophisticated image and more.

San Carlos is only Oregons '2 level trauma center east of the Cascade Mountains and is the only region the Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital increased its inpatient bed capacity to 216 in late 2004 to keep pace with population growth central Oregon and is in the midst of expansions in facilities, technology and equipment.

San Carlos and the many other medical facilities in Bend provide the state of health care for retired art. Many of the nations best physicians and surgeons of living in Bend for the lifestyle found in central Oregon.

Bend also has golf courses for all. Spectacular Central Oregon high desert landscape and ideal climate, four seasons of stars, public, Semi-private and private rooms have been classified 23 in the world as a golf destination by Golf Digest. Choose from over 25 unique courses, some championship-tolerant designs as of Sunriver Crosswater course designed to challenge even the lowest handicaps.

Bend also has many volunteer opportunities. Habitat for Humanity, the Oregon High Desert Museum, Hospice and St. Charles Medical Center are just some of the many opportunities to give back to the community.

Bend Oregon real estate prices are still moderate compared with some parts of the nation. The median home price is around $ 350,000. House prices are have increased steadily during the last decade because Bend is a wonderful place to live and retire.
